Prep, learn, practice
At Harris Rainham Sixth Form, our teaching and learning approach is designed to ensure that every student develops the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for academic success and beyond. Our method is structured around three key phases: Prep, Learn, and Practise.
Prep
Preparation is a vital part of learning. Before lessons, students complete specific prep work as directed by their teachers. This may include:
- Reading assigned pages from textbooks.
- Completing tasks on online platforms.
- Conducting research to build foundational understanding.
To reinforce the importance of this phase, every lesson begins with a Prep Quiz. This silent activity assesses the quality of the prep work and ensures students are ready to engage fully with the lesson.
Learn
During the Learn phase, teachers deliver core content to the class. This is where:
- Key concepts and powerful knowledge are emphasised.
- Teachers use various methods to check understanding and ensure students grasp essential ideas.
Active learning and engagement are central to this stage, ensuring students build a strong knowledge base.
Practice
The final phase, Practise, focuses on applying knowledge to real-world scenarios and academic challenges. This phase includes:
- Completing exam-style questions and essay tasks.
- Silent, focused practise to reinforce understanding and build expertise.
