Supporting students with SEND
At Harris Rainham Sixth Form (HRSF), we are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, ensuring they thrive academically, personally, and socially. Guided by our core values of Curiosity, Compassion, and Commitment, we are dedicated to providing high-quality education tailored to the unique needs of every learner.
Our Mission and Approach
HRSF strives to break barriers to education and address local challenges of educational disadvantage. We prioritise individualised support and inclusive practices for our diverse student body, including those with SEND. We work closely with students, families, and staff to ensure every learner receives the tailored support they need to achieve their potential.
Identification and Assessment
Our process for identifying and supporting students with SEND includes:
- Screening and Initial Assessments: All new students undergo a comprehensive assessment process to identify any specific needs.
- Collaboration with Schools: For external students, we liaise with their previous institutions to gather comprehensive information.
- Ongoing Monitoring: We use regular reviews and feedback from teachers, students, and families to track progress and address any emerging needs.
- Specialist Support: Diagnostic tools and professional input are utilised to ensure accurate identification of needs when required.
Tailored Support and Strategies
Our SEND support framework is designed to ensure that every student can succeed. Key elements include:
- One-to-One Support: Dedicated learning support for students with specific needs, both in lessons and during private study sessions.
- Quality First Teaching (QFT): Our teachers implement evidence-based strategies to create inclusive and adaptive classroom experiences.
- Individual Support Plans (ISPs): These are reviewed regularly in collaboration with students, families, and staff, ensuring that interventions remain effective and aligned with each student’s goals.
Personal Development and Wellbeing
We emphasise holistic development through:
- A rich co-curriculum featuring electives, guilds, and societies, helping students develop life skills, resilience, and a sense of community.
- Mental Health Support: Our Wellbeing Hub, life coaching, and a dedicated wellbeing room provide spaces for emotional regulation and mental health support. Students and staff can access resources and advice via a dedicated email or self-referral system.
- Pastoral Care: Tutors, Heads of Year, and a SENDCo work collaboratively to provide comprehensive pastoral support.
Outcomes and Impact
HRSF celebrates the full participation of SEND students in academic and extracurricular life. Every learner is encouraged to take part in trips, societies, and leadership opportunities. Our supportive and inclusive culture is reflected in the positive feedback we receive from students and their families, as well as the strong relationships built within the school community.
