Attendance and punctuality
At Harris Rainham Sixth Form, we believe that excellent attendance and punctuality are crucial for academic success and personal development. As a sixth form college catering to students aged 16-18, we are committed to fostering a professional and disciplined environment where students are fully prepared for the expectations of higher education, apprenticeships, and employment.
Why Attendance and Punctuality Matter
Regular attendance and being on time are key to making the most of your learning opportunities. Missing lessons can have a significant impact on academic progress, as well as the ability to meet coursework deadlines, participate in discussions, and collaborate with peers. Developing good habits of punctuality and attendance at this stage in life builds valuable skills for the workplace and beyond.
Expectations
- Attendance: Students are expected to maintain attendance of 95% or higher across all lessons and study sessions.
- Punctuality: Arriving on time for every lesson, tutor session, and private study period is essential. Late arrivals disrupt the learning environment for others and can affect individual performance.
Reporting Absences
If you are unable to attend due to illness or other valid reasons:
- Notify the Sixth Form office via email or phone as early as possible, preferably before 8:30 a.m.
- Provide any required documentation, such as a medical note, for prolonged absences.
Please ask parents/carers to contact 01708 209080 and wait to speak to either myself or Aileen. Alternatively send an email to Carla Sweetman: c.sweetman@harrisrainhamsixthform.org.uk.
Support for Students
We understand that students may face challenges affecting their attendance or punctuality. Our dedicated pastoral team and tutors are available to provide support and guidance. If you are experiencing difficulties, reach out so that we can work together to address any issues and minimize disruptions to your education.
Consequences of Poor Attendance or Punctuality
- Persistent absences or lateness will result in interventions, including meetings with tutors, pastoral staff, and parents/guardians where necessary.
- Continued failure to meet expectations may impact your progression to the next stage of education or work placements and can lead to removal from courses or extracurricular activities.
Working Together
We encourage all students to take responsibility for their attendance and punctuality as part of their professional development. Parents and guardians play a vital role in supporting this commitment, and we appreciate their efforts in encouraging students to prioritize their education.
At Harris Rainham Sixth Form, we are here to help you succeed. By maintaining high standards of attendance and punctuality, you are giving yourself the best chance to achieve your goals and prepare for a bright future.
