MDV students get suturing

Posted on: 06/03/2026

This week we were delighted to welcome back former student Rory Armstrong-Smith, who visited our Medicine, Dentistry & Veterinary Science Guild.

Rory was an exceptional student, serving as Head Boy at Harris Academy Rainham and later again at Harris Academy Riverside in the Sixth Form. Rory now studies Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham.

During his visit, Rory spoke to students about his journey through school and university, sharing valuable insights into studying veterinary medicine and the pathway to becoming a qualified vet.

To ensure the session appealed to students interested in all medical pathways, Rory also organised a hands-on practical activity. Students were given the opportunity to learn how to suture a wound, practising their technique on bananas.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our MDV students to hear first-hand about Rory’s experiences and to gain a practical insight into clinical skills.

Thank you so much Rory- we are very grateful!
