Politics Students Visit Houses of Parliament
Posted on: 29/09/2025A Level Politics students thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Houses of Parliament on Monday 22nd September 2025.
The day began with a tour of Parliament. Students were captivated by the historic surroundings and gained valuable insight into the workings of UK democracy. Students were able to visit both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, seeing first hand where legislation is debated and shaped.
Later, in an interactive workshop, they engaged in a lively role-play in which students had to design their own political party and present their manifesto. This hands-on experience brought their classroom learning to life, deepening their understanding of democratic processes and inspiring many to become more active citizens. The trip was not only educational but also empowering, leaving students with a lasting appreciation for the role of Parliament, and democracy, in shaping society.
"I found the trip very insightful, especially learning more about the roles of the House of Lords," said Joshua, Year 13. I was also really interested to see Hansard, the written record of everything ever debated in the Commons. Learning that even the layout of the building itself, and the paintings on the walls have political significance was very eye-opening. We had some interesting debate about which politician should be given a statue, as there is a vacant plinth in the lobby on the way to the Commons. Ending with the mock election was very fun and engaging."
