Chemistry Elective Students Compete in National Competition
Posted on: 02/06/2025Our Year 12 Chemistry Elective students are taking part in the Schools’ Analyst Competition, organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
This national competition challenges students to apply their practical skills and scientific knowledge through a series of investigative experiments designed to assess the suitability of a former industrial site for residential development.
The project involves three key practical tasks:
- Quantification of thiosulfate in soil samples via titration.
- Identification of azo dyes using thin-layer chromatography.
- Detection of metal salts through flame tests, taking place on 5th June.
Working in groups, students are not only competing internally but also against schools across the country to achieve the most accurate and scientifically robust results. Final submissions are due in June, with the highest-performing team progressing to the next stage of the competition.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate their analytical skills and gain valuable experience in applied chemistry - adding to their competitive profile.
