Since joining Harris Rainham Sixth Form, I’ve been incredibly well supported in my journey towards studying Medicine. The school has actively encouraged me to take part in programmes that strengthen both my academic profile and my confidence as a future applicant.
Through Target Medicine at UCL, I attended sessions designed to improve my competitiveness as a medicine applicant. I practised interview skills, refined my personal statement, and explored current “hot topics” in medicine. These sessions not only deepened my understanding of the profession but also helped me develop stronger communication and teamwork skills — both essential for a career in healthcare.
I also took part in STEM Potential at Imperial, where we explored challenging academic topics that we hadn’t yet covered in school. This meant that when those concepts eventually came up in lessons, I already had a solid foundation, allowing me to engage more confidently and at a deeper level.
Through Lucy Cavendish College’s AAP programme, I broadened my understanding beyond the specification by applying what I’d learned to completely new and unfamiliar concepts. A highlight was creating a scientific research poster, which gave me real insight into how evidence is gathered and used to investigate important research questions — a valuable experience for anyone considering medicine.
My experience on the UNIQ Oxford residential programme was especially inspiring. Living on campus and taking part in academic sessions gave me a genuine taste of university life. I was able to explore the facilities and speak directly to current students studying the course I hope to pursue, which made my goals feel far more tangible and achievable.
Alongside this, I’ve given back to the school community through Axiom Mentoring, supporting Year 7–9 students in maths. Helping younger students develop their critical thinking skills — particularly when tackling unconventional problems — has strengthened my own understanding while building my leadership skills.
Harris Rainham Sixth Form has provided me with the guidance, opportunities and encouragement to grow both academically and personally, ensuring I feel fully prepared and confident as I work towards a future in Medicine.
